How Do I Fight Asthma?

For those who don’t know much about asthma, it’s a respiratory condition, when an asthma attack occurs the lungs become inflamed and swollen. The muscles in the airways contract, the bronchi become narrow reducing airflow leading to reduced oxygen levels. It feels like being strangled and unable to stop it. You end up hyperventilating, getting distressed, wheezing, commonly for me having bad headaches and going dizzy from the lack of oxygen.

I had severe asthma and had gone through a lot of different types of testing. I had been to urgent care and the emergency room. I was at the hospital every other week to get injections that currently did not work. I struggled to breathe and to do any type of physical activity, I was absolutely exhausted, I got light-headed and dizzy really easy from being oxygen deprived, I was in pain and miserable. I tried a lot of medications that didn’t seem to be making a difference and my asthma has tried to end me several times. This is not a joke.

This condition affects me in everyday life. I went from completely fine to unable to speak or breathe on my own in a matter of hours. Being asthmatic isn’t a choice. I have no triggers no causes no warning, but it affects me every day since I was 19. It’s something you learn to live with and adapt daily life around.

I first met Dr. Irina Natapov 2 years ago and continue to be amazed by her professionalism and ability to see me as a whole person with all my health concerns. She has helped me to see how I can cope with asthma more effectively and how to create asthma-friendly environments. This is my great luck to find a doctor who really cares about me and my health and wonderfully supportive.

The best thing I ever did was change up my unhealthy lifestyle and diet. It helped me to get off my dependency on daily medication. Food and herbs have such power! The right nutrients can help you to control and manage your condition. And, one of the main things to fight asthma is to manage your emotions. Studies have shown that there's a link between strong emotions, including stress, and asthma symptoms.

When you have asthma, it's very important to keep your condition under control, to have an asthma action plan and to find support.

Schedule your appointment with Dr. Irina Natapov in Lynn, MA and feel better!
