Chronic Urinary Tract Infections

Chronic urinary tract infection (UTI) is the common name for an infection in any part of urinary system:

  • Lower urinary tract infection – Bladder and urethra
  • Upper urinary tract infection – Ureters and Kidneys
  • Bladder infection – Cystitis
  • Persistent recurrent UTI – Chronic cystitis, chronic UTI
  • Kidney infection – Pyelonephritis
  • Urethra infection – Urethritis

Chronic UTI Symptoms:

  • Strong urine odor
  • Burning with urination
  • Constant or frequent urge to urinate
  • Bloody, cloudy, dark urine
  • Cloudy or pink urine
  • Suprapubic pain
  • Feeling fatigued

Chronic UTI Prevention:

  • Empty bladder fully when urinating
  • Drink plenty of water daily
  • Urinate after sexual intercourse
  • Avoid use of diaphragms and spermicides
  • Wipe from front to bac k to prevent fecal flora from entering the urethra
  • Avoid irritation of the vagina with feminine hygiene products such as sprays, strong soaps, or scented pantyliners
  • Avoid the constipations
  • Eat healthy food for a healthy immune system
  • Use antibiotics in cases of recurrent infections
